It should indeed be Wo2 ye1 xiang3 mai2 bi3ji4ben3.
I shall correct it.
Tones should indeed not be ignored but also not over-stressed as even Chenpv could not pronounced
it right.

When chinese meet on street they say HELLO 你到哪儿去啊?
When chinese pays a visited they reply HELLO 我吃饱了。to the host when he says HELLO
你吃了吗?

Fenlan, you will NEVER sound like the average chinese even if you do get your tones right.
Words like 你好、再见、认识你,我很高兴、太太、夫人、先生、小姐 and
谢谢 are designed by the chinese in dealing with foreigners.

Mr. Cai Zhonghua in Guangzhou's Xianjidong collects nearly 100 categories
of various rare stones at his home. Among them are two peculiar stones
which keep giving off fragrance of chocolate no matter they are washed,
brushed, braised or boiled. These two stones have been invited to Japan
and shot to produce a special TV program by TV Station in Tokyo.
According to Mr. Cai, the two stones will be on display at the
International Jewellery Show to be held in Guangzhou on July 28th.

World's highest railway station built

A surveyor was working at the construction site of the Tanglha Railway
Station on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway on July 20, 2005. The Tanglha
Railway Station is located in the pass of Tanglha Mount with an altitude
of 5,068 meters. The project is designed by the 1st Survey and Design
Institute of the Ministry of Railways and constructed by China Railway
18th and 19th Bureau Group Co. Now the station is under smooth
construction and its main building is expected to complete in mid August.

Taiwan fruits attracts Shanghai citizens

The cake made of various kinds of fruits is displayed in the Cross-Strait
Agriculture Cooperation Exhibition and Taiwan Agricultural Products Trade
Fair held from July 18 to 20. The exhibition shows the fruitful
achievements of Taiwan-funded agricultural enterprises in the mainland,
and is also the largest one with participation of Taiwan's agricultural
organizations and enterprises.

The Shanghai International Exhibition Center resembled a large-scale
preferential fruit market, crowded by citizens on July 19. The
Cross-Strait Agriculture Cooperation Exhibition and Taiwan Agricultural
Products Trade Fair was held in the exhibition center from July 18 to 20,
displaying 19 types of tropic fruits derived from the Taiwan Island.

On July 17, contestants of the 2005 Miss Intercontinental Beauty Pageant
visited Taiping Lake in Anhui's capital city Hefei and learned to play
Chinese musical instruments. Picture shows Miss Venezuela was playing
Ruan (a plucked four-stringed moon-shaped Chinese lute with long and
straight neck and various numbers of frets, dating back to around 200 BC).

Miss Brazil was playing Erhu (a bowed two-stringed Chinese fiddle).

Stamps featuring Nantong Museum to issue

To mark the State Post Bureau's issuance of special stamps (two stamps in
each series) featuring the century-old Nantong Museum, the Beijing Stamp
Co. designs and prints some exquisite accessories including first-day
covers and stamp albums. These accessories will be issued on July 16th,
the same day with those special stamps. This series of stamps, with a
face value of 80 cents each, features the southern and middle divisions
of the museum. Jiangsu's Nantong Museum, the first museum established by
Chinese, will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. It is a local
museum funded by a significant Chinese business owner Zhang Jian.

At 6 p.m. July 7th, a mushroom-shaped cloud appeared in the sky above
northwest Habahe County of Xinjiang. It looked like the mushroom cloud
produced by an atomic bomb, which was magnificent. The cloud vanished in

China Lotus Exhibition opens in Beijing

On July 5, the 19th China Lotus Exhibition opened in Beijing's Lotus Pond
Park. Over 300 representatives from Chinese lotus circle and lotus
experts from Japan, Australia, Thailand and the US participated in the
opening ceremony. The exhibition showcases selected lotuses of 75
organizations from 47 cities in 22 provinces and municipalities around
China. The 19th China Lotus Exhibition will also be held in Qingdao. It
is learned that the Beijing Lotus Pond Park is exhibiting over 80,000
lotuses on the 15,000-square meter lake and more than 10,000 pots of
lotuses in over 280 types along paths in the park.

Zhu Bangfa, a former soldier from Anhui, owns more than 30,000 badges of
Mao Zedong after over 30 years of collection. These badges can be divided
into over 2,000 categories. The largest one has a diameter of 35
centimeters and the smallest is only button-sized. Zhu purchased a
100-square-meter house at the cost of more than 400,000 yuan, changed it
into an exhibition room for his badges, and opened it on July 4 to the
public for free.
