China produced 521,600 cars and sold 530,100 cars in its domestic market
in January 2006, up 28.24 percent and 44.62 percent year on year,
according to figures released by the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday.

During the month, China produced 391,600 passenger cars and sold 418,900
passenger cars, jumping 51.95 percent and 72.63 percent.

Meanwhile, the country's commercial-use car production and sales volume
reached 130,000 and 111,100, down 12.76 percent and 10.27 percent year on
year.

Insiders attribute the booming of passenger car sales and production to
Chinese people's consumption growth during the New Year holiday and
Spring Festival, and car dealers' increasing promotion activities during
the month.
